New movie: The Thing (2011)

A re-make of the 1982 film. The story revolves around a group of scientists who discovered an alien spaceship and a shapeshifting alien life form which has been frozen in time beneath the snow and ice of The Antarctica.

The frozen alien was excavated and set back to their base camp for further anaylsis. But little did they know that the slightly warmer environment within their base camp was causing the ice which enclosed the alien, to start melt. The alien broke free from the ice and started to hunt down victims.

I just came back from watching this show. Not much of a scare except the beginning part. The rest of the movie was fairly predictable but was quite gross.

The only thing which puzzled me and my friends after the show was how the people in the base camp got infected by the alien and the sequence they got infected. Anyone willing to shine some light into this? Thanks!

First-hand experience on Xbox 360 Kinect

Yeah... I know I know... It's been out of quite a while now and it seems quite dumb that I only got to play with it only yesterday.

But it was FANTASTIC!!!! Went to an arcade at iluma, Bugis with my GF and Jane last night and we had a Blast!!!
It was so fun and exhilaration! All of us had so much fun that we didn't realised that one hour of game play was over in a blink of an eye...

Definitely will buy a set and play at home ^.^

After thoughts:
It's a simple action movie. The Plot is straight to the point. Easy to understand and gives audience a valuable lesson that "Nothing is impossible as long as you put your heart and soul to it." Towards the end, if you have been enjoying this movie, you WILL be "sucked it" and you really feel like you were punching together with Hugh Jackman.
A wonderful movie for families and friends to enjoy.

Heard that there could be a sequel! Can't wait for it!!! ^.^

Duke Nukem Forever (PC Version)

After so many years; so many delays; so many re-developments; the game is finally launched!!!

Excited about it, I quickly grabbed a copy of it and installed it on my Asus 1215B. Thankfully, my powerful netbook was able to handle the graphics easily and I was able to play it on "Medium" setting.

The introduction was kind of abrupt (Started out in the toilet...) and Duke Nukem (DN) taking a pee. Once done, there ain't much you could do in this scene, because not everything is interactable and usable. Roaming around, you will reach a make-shift "comand center" and you can express your hidden "Picasso" on the whiteboard.

Walking out from the room, you will see some fierce exchange of fire and of course, a little bit later, you will be caught in a blast and you will be required to pick up a destructor weapon and kill a HUGE monster. This one should be a piece of cake actually. Because it fires and moves very slowly, which gives you ample time to move around and kill it.

Once it's down, you will be needed to climb onto top of it and plug out a "Y-Shaped" cable (Probably it's life line). You will be required to knock it down twice before you can plug that cable out.

Once you killed the monster, only then you realised that DN was actually playing his own video game, and surprise surprise, two chicks "attending" to him.
The cut scene is quite irritating though. A big bunch of trash talk and you are unable to skip it. Just bear with it for 5 minutes...
But do take note of two videos happening on the television screen, it willtell you where to go and what will be the main plot of this game.
1) A variety show wants yOu to be their Guest
2) News reporter talking about an alien invasion (well well well... This sounds more DN right?!)

From here, you will proceed to a lift and go to ground floor to attend that variety show, only to find out from te host that it has been cancelled due to that alien Invasion... (Don't be sad... At least we can kick some alien butts!!!)

New movie: Shark Night 3D

Set in Louisiana, seven Tulane undergraduates – Sara (Sara Paxton), Nick (Dustin Milligan), Beth (Katharine McPhee), Malik (Sinqua Walls), Maya (Alyssa Diaz), Blake (Chris Zylka) and Gordon (Joel David Moore) – drive to Sara's family vacation home on a secluded private lake near Lake Pontchartrain. At a local bait shop, Sara encounters her old boyfriend, Dennis (Chris Carmack) and his redneck friend, Red (Joshua Leonard). Dennis and Red make racial taunts to Malik and Maya, his Latina fiancee, but Sara diffuses the situation. Sara drives a speedboat recklessly to the vacation home, attracting the attention of Sheriff Sabin (Donal Logue). He chases her, frightening her friends, but then happily shares a beer with them. He tells Sara he is happy to see her back after a three-year-long absence.

While Gordon tries to seduce Beth and Sara sunbathes, Nick, Blake, Malik and Maya go waterskiing. A shark pursues Malik and attacks him. Nick, Blake and Maya try to rescue him, but he swims back to shore – missing his right arm. When Nick swims out into the lake to retrieve his arm, he is stalked and pursued by the shark. Nick barely makes it back to shore. A pre-med student, he stabilizes Malik, then goes with Sara and Maya to take him to a hospital. However, blood dripping from Malik's wound attracts a shark that attacks the boat. Maya is knocked into the water and eaten. The shark then damages the steering column of the boat. It crashes into the gas pump in front of the boathouse, exploding, leaving everyone stranded. Sara, Nick and Malik barely make it to shore. Because their cell phones have no reception and the house has no landline, they cannot call for help.

Dennis and Red arrive and agree to take Beth and Gordon to the mainland. Nick refuses to allow Malik to be moved. On the boat trip, Red suggests the sharks have entered the lake due to a storm surge from a hurricane – then offers a more ominous, vague theory that someone put them there. Dennis reveals that he and Red have put the sharks there and feed uppity college students to them. Dennis forces Gordon into the water; he manages to swim to and climb a nearby mangrove tree but is devoured by a mako shark when it leaps from the water and picks him off the trunk. Red and Dennis then feed Beth to cookiecutter sharks.

When Blake tells Malik that Maya was killed by a shark, Malik arms himself with a harpoon and ventures into the water to kill it. His bloody wound attracts a hammerhead shark; he kills it but is further wounded in the process. Nick and Blake pull the shark to shore, and Nick realizes that it wasn't the shark that took Malik's arm. He also finds a camera attached to its belly. Blake decides to take Malik to the mainland on a jet ski. When Malik sees them being pursued by sharks and realizing that Blake can travel faster without him, Malik sacrifices himself. But Blake is killed when an enormous great white sharkbreaches from the lake and plucks him off the jet ski.

Sheriff Sabin visits Sara and Nick. He gives them soup to calm them, and appears to use his police radio to call for help. Nick then passes out. When Sara goes to the kitchen to get a towel, she finds her dog has also passed out after eating the soup Sabin brought,revealing Sabin to be shady. Sara takes a knife and is about to attack Sabin when Dennis arrive and disarms her. Dennis and Red take Sara out on their boat, while Sabin takes Nick to the boathouse and prepares to dunk him into the lake where tiger sharks await. Sabin reveals that he, Dennis and Red have been inspired by the Discovery Channel's Shark Week and Faces of Death videos to film and make available to thrill seekers on the Internet live footage of people being eaten by sharks. When Sabin is distracted by the CD player, Nick frees himself then ignites an overturned can of gas. Badly burned, Sabin plunges into the lake and is eaten by the tiger sharks.

Dennis reveals he is still bitter at Sara for leaving him after their last diving date three years earlier. Sara was unnerved by two accidents that occurred that day: her sudden loss of air (and Dennis's apparent lack of concern), and her slashing his face open with the boat propeller when she tried to escape him. After throwing her dog into the lake, Dennis and Red lower her, in a shark cage, into the lake. A ravenous mako shark appears, but so does Nick, who tries to hold Red hostage and force Dennis to free Sara. Instead, Dennis throws a knife into Red, killing him. Nick and Dennis struggle in the water. The mako eats Dennis then attacks the cage. Sara's dog brings a spear to Nick, and he uses it to kill the shark and free Sara. Nick, Sara and the dog swim to the boat. Just as they think they are safe, the great white breaches the surface and lunges towards them.

After thoughts:

When I saw the trailer, I was expecting this movie to provide a good scare. (Since it's a Shark show) but roughly 20 minutes into the show, I found it was a simple waste of time and money.

The plot was simple. Starting with a group of college students who just finished their exams and wanted to head off to a quiet town to chill and party away the weekends. In-between, there was a side twist to the story when one of the lead actresses seem to have a dark past with one of the guys (He has a scar underneath his right eye) living in that town. 

After which, the scares were WAY too easy to spot and predict, which took away the thrill of watching a scary movie.

Overall, I give this show 4/10.

Quake off Indonesia Bali

OMG!!! Another earthquake just hit Bali, Indonesia. Luckily no injuries or death now... Phew....

Future Singapore MRT network?!

Singapore's MRT (Mass Rapid Transport) network has came a LONG way since 1988. Back then, the network was only a simple 3 set network and each represented by a different set of colours.

1. EAST-WEST Bound (Green & Blue)
2. NORTH-SOUTH Bound (Yellow and Red)
3. NORTH-WEST Bound (Dark Orange and Brown)

Over the next 20 plus years, our Government expanded the network even further and making it very convenient for the people. And of course, the colours have also been changed. The Government also added MRT's "younger brother", called LRT (Light Rapid Transport), which is represented by Grey lines.

These trams are fully automated, compared to MRT, which requires human operations.

Then again, could this be the future?

Memories...

I was checking through the links in my blog and I came across two of my friends who passed away when they were only 20+:

- Kaiyuan (Age: 26. RIP: 2009)

- May (Age: 28. RIP: 2007)

Reading through their blog posts, looking through their photos suddenly bought back so many happy memories I had with them...

I miss both of them... I really do... =...(

Shanghai Dolly 1st Anniversary

I was invited by my friend to attend Shanghai Dolly's 1st Anniversary.

It was FANTASTIC! The whole place was packed to the MAX, filled with lots of balloons and free flow of beer, in-house pours and mixes. What more can you say?! Ha ha!

The atmosphere was wonderful... The crowd was great and it's pretty difficult not to be standing next to beautiful girls, so it's quite hard to miss them out =P

The music, well, the mix reminded me of the old DOUBLE 'O' club. So I got nothing much to say about that... Just so-so

And then, there was this guy standing in front of me (Not sure of his name), he kept taking glasses after glasses after glasses of wine, mixes and beers... And In no time, the bar counter in front of him were FILLED with glasses of pours which were literally UNTOUCHED!!! Brother... That's a freaky BIG WASTE...

What's more, I think he was a little bit tipsy, so he was dancing, "swinging" his hips, throwing his arms all around and "grinding" every girl standing next to him, or near him =.=||| I was like: "Dude... I know you're high... You're enjoying yourself... BUT CAN YOU STOP GRINDING EVERY SINGLE MOTHER F**KING GIRLS STANDING NEAR YOU?!"

He was virtually chasing these girls away!!! What a bummer... =_=|||

And then came that moment... he was dancing and I think standing next to him was his friend's GF... He bumped into her and she tried to steady him... THEN, [CRASH]!!! He swung his arms and smashed a few glasses of drinks in front of him.

That guy didn't even apologise... WTF!!! And he just stepped aside to allow the cleaner to clean up the mess and he continued dancing!!! WTH!!!

If he was MY friend... I would have told him to sit still and just do nothing... So throw face!!!

Well, me and my girlfriend didn't stayed long, we left around 11:00pm, because we had work the next day...

But it was enjoyable overall =D

I'm back!!!

Yes yes yes yes yes!!! After being dormant for2 years... I am back again!!

UPDATE part III

MARINA SQUARE - 18.11.09

Went out with dear dear after work hahaha... Then we headed down to Marina Square to have our dinner... Just when we were having a headache where to eat... "JUST ACIA" came up to us...
FEMALE ASST.: "HI! We are having a promotion right now..." and handed us a leaflet.

Between us: "Hmmmm... Seems not bad hor... Somemore got things I can eat... OK lah... Let's go there =)"







The food there is not bad... Nice of them to provide free flow of drinks, coffee, tea and ice cream. =) Oh... Do try out their 7-11 Mr. Softee-like ice cream.. DAMN NICE! Bring back a lot of memories of the 7-11 Mr. Softee ice cream =)

UPDATE part II

X`MAS CAME EARLY - CITY HALL 07.11.09

Just felt weird... The X`mas decorations are being displayed earlier and earlier and earlier every year... Gave me a feeling that X`mas in Singapore is no longer a "Season of Sharing" but more like a "Season to spend & spend & spend to help Singapore's Economy"

But still... The decorations...
